I hate the rain and the rain hates me. Living in Florida has it’s perks but whoever dubbed us the sunshine state was clearly delusional. Before I get more worked up about this clear misrepresentation of Florida, I will begrudgingly admit that the rain serves one great purpose- giving me an excuse to curl up in my bed and enjoy a lazy afternoon.
I truly do not like the rain when I’m walking to class or when I’m trying to get home from work. But I have a very small, but very loving place in my heart for the few afternoons I can relax and listen to the rain. When the storm clouds roll in, often times like clock work, I adore grabbing my blanket, turning on Netflix, and making some tea. Rainy afternoons are treasured moments and it’s all about the time spent alone. You can certainly invite a friend but a true snuggly afternoon should be spent without distractions, obligations, or chatter.
As this afternoon’s thunder rolls in, I want to share with you my rainy day guide and give you a peak into this happy moment!
One // Make Your Bed… Then Unmake It
Before you climb back into bed after a hopefully productive morning, straighten up your sheets, fluff your pillows, and make sure that you have a cozy place to snuggle in. If you really want to get comfy, throw on one of your favorite tshirts. I’m absolutely obsessed with my Lauren James tshirts!
Two // Light Candles
Pick your favorite candle and light that bad boy up! If you’re going to have a relaxing afternoon then you definitely need to set the mood with some pretty light and scents.
Three // Make a Yummy Snack
Before you climb into bed, make sure that you’re not going to have to move for a while. I love putting together little snack plates for afternoons relaxing. Make a fruit and cheese plate or just grab a bag of chips! No judgement. I made some tea and strawberries which should keep me satisfied until dinner!
Four // Find a Good Book or Movie
This is my favorite part of any quiet, rainy afternoon. Depending on my mood, I will do a bible study, watch Sweet Home Alabama, or catch up on Game of Thrones. Hitting all the marks, ya know?
Five // Turn Your Phone on Silent
No, I am not taking twitter and insta away from you, but if you’re going to use your phone, it should be on your terms. There’s nothing worse than having your phone blow up during a particularly important scene of your favorite show. No mom, your text is not more important that Khaleesi climbing onto a dragon.
Well, y’all, I hope that you don’t have to brave the rain anytime soon, but I do hope that you can find some quiet moments this summer to get away from the world and relax. What are your favorite quiet afternoon staples?
